Broadmead appoints Esther Tanui, RN, MSN, as Director of Assisted Living

Esther Tanui, RN, MSN, the new Director of Assisted Living, will have responsibility for both Taylor and Darlington, which is the recently opened assisted living dementia unit. She comes to Broadmead from an assisted living center in Towson, where she was Director of Nursing for a 23-resident memory care unit. That experience made Broadmead a logical next step.

As part of the team here, Esther will be involved in shaping the programs for Darlington, where her office is located. All nurses and nursing staff on Taylor and Darlington will report to her.

Esther's commitment to assisted living developed when she worked for another assisted living community in Bel Air. During her seven years there, she found her niche while listening to the stories of assisted living residents and their families as they made the transition to new stages of life. She realized that this area of nursing was her calling.

Born and raised in Kenya, Esther came to the United States two decades ago to study for a master's degree in nursing at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, she obtained her license as a registered nurse in Maryland and took a job at Mercy Hospital as a nurse for hospital employees.

Esther has a sister and two brothers in Delaware. Most of the rest of her 15 siblings came to the United States to study, but they all returned to Kenya. Esther has a daughter, Rosanna, who is a medical student at Drexel University and wants to specialize in maternal and child health; and a son, Christian, who is 15 years old and in ninth grade.
