Broadmead Brings Together Diverse Residents & Experiences

When our residents arrive at Broadmead, they bring an amazing collection of diverse experiences, stories, and skills to our community. They have initiated events such as our recent African Art Exhibit, joined the Multicultural Committee, engaged in diversity-related dialogues, and taken part in lectures on Asian American identity, the racial justice movement, and many other topics. Their backgrounds and experiences enhance this Life Plan Community long known for its beauty, convenience, and Quaker-inspired values - where a lifestyle of integrity, inclusion and simplicity thrives by gathering not just a diverse group of neighbors, but friends. No matter where you come from - big city or small town, traveled the world or traveled your back woods - all paths into Broadmead lead to the same neighborhood.

Meet Our Director of Culture and Belonging

Parker Suddeth, Broadmead’s Director of Culture and Belonging, devotes his time to leading initiatives aimed at creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that improves the overall experience for both our residents and team members.

Working diligently to develop and implement strategies designed to build a more inclusive community, Parker bolsters Broadmead’s commitment to serving a growing, diverse population of residents.

"A true community is not just a place but a purpose—a commitment to see each other fully, respect each voice, and celebrate every perspective. Here at Broadmead, we don’t settle for simply opening doors; we step forward together, embracing a legacy that values every story and invites every experience. Building on these strong foundations, we ensure that all who join this community feel not only welcomed but essential to its growth. We honor our past by creating a future where belonging isn’t just offered—it’s expected, and it’s earned, every day."

Connection Through Community

At Broadmead, we believe belonging starts with connection — and connection thrives through community. The resident-led groups below reflect our shared commitment to honoring diverse identities, lived experiences, and cultural expressions. These groups provide supportive spaces for dialogue, celebration, learning, and community-building, further enriching the inclusive and compassionate culture that defines life at Broadmead.

Trans
Grands

Trans Grands is a heartfelt community within the Broadmead Residents Association, comprised of residents who are proud parents and grandparents of children and grandchildren in the LGBTQ+ community. This group offers a meaningful space for connection, support, and reflection—celebrating the diverse journeys of loved ones while fostering a spirit of belonging, empathy, and understanding across the greater Broadmead community.

Multicultural Committee

The Multicultural Committee brings together residents committed to exploring and honoring the wide range of cultural traditions, identities, and experiences represented within the Broadmead community and beyond. Through programming, dialogue, and shared learning, the committee promotes inclusive engagement and deepens cross-cultural connections across campus.

Jewish
Heritage Group

The Jewish Heritage Group is a resident-led space within the Broadmead Residents Association that celebrates Jewish culture, spirituality, and history. Through events, education, and conversation, the group fosters community while offering opportunities for both Jewish and non-Jewish residents to learn and connect in meaningful ways.

SAGECare Certification

Certifying Our History of Integrity and Inclusion

Broadmead's Quaker-inspired values, including integrity and inclusion, continue to shape our community. In 2022, these values showed in our commitment to becoming Platinum Certified by SAGECare. SAGECare is a division of SAGE, the country’s oldest and largest nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of LGBTQ+ older adults.

Our certification means that a minimum of 80% of our employees have completed one hour of LGBTQ+ aging training, while at least 80% of our administrators and executives have completed 4 hours of the same training with live coaching. It is with this training that Broadmead remains dedicated to upholding our values and welcome diversity of all types on campus.
