Broadmead Welcomes New Resident, Ann Hill

By Willy Sydnor

Born and brought up in Mississippi, Ann Hill went to college in Colorado. She met her future husband, David, at the University of Colorado, where she was an English major and he was studying geophysics. Ann's parents had also met in Colorado when her father was attending the Colorado School of Mines.

After graduation, Ann and David moved to Pasadena, CA, where David obtained a doctorate from the California Institute of Technology. As a geophysicist for the U.S. Geological Survey who specialized in research on earthquakes and volcanos, David's work took them to Hawaii, Japan, and Switzerland.

Ann found living abroad interesting but sometimes challenging. They returned to the U.S. mainland in 1970 and settled in Palo Alto, CA. Ann and David were married for 60 years, until his death in 2018.

Ann has a son, Peter, who lives in Baltimore and is senior vice president for medical affairs at the Johns Hopkins Health System. She also has a granddaughter who is enrolled in the Hopkins School of Medicine, and a grandson who is working in New York, preparing for law school.

One of Ann's hobbies is knitting. She has already joined the Broadmead knitting group and looks forward to the time they can knit together in person. Another hobby is reading; she particularly enjoys historical fiction.
