About Broadmead
Simply beautiful. That will be your first thought when you see Broadmead. This inclusive accredited, not-for-profit, lifecare community is nestled in the picturesque rolling hills of Hunt Valley, Maryland. The beauty of the natural surroundings can only be surpassed by the warmth and vitality of the people who reside here. This is a friendly, active community where you will immediately feel welcomed.
Broadmead is the most experienced continuing care retirement community in Maryland. The community was founded in 1976 by the Baltimore Monthly Meeting of Friends~ Stony Run, a local Quaker Meeting. It welcomed its first residents in the fall of 1979 and quickly achieved full occupancy.
The community is operated in the spirit of the Religious Society of Friends under which all individuals are treated equitably with dignity and appreciation for individual differences. In the Quaker tradition, it welcomes persons of all faiths. From its beginning, Broadmead has been a warm, caring community with an exciting and intellectually stimulating atmosphere. It is designed for people who wish to maintain maximum independence with the assurance of professional health care and personal support, should the need arise. Broadmead encourages the personal independence of older individuals and offers the opportunity to pursue a productive and satisfying life.

Our Values
Believing that all people have capacities and strengths that can be supported and nurtured. Programs focus on a person's wellness and abilities rather than on needs, disabilities, or illness. |
Respecting the dignity of each individual. Programs seek to understand and listen to the older person and to respond with care and flexibility. This respect is accorded all, regardless of infirmity or frailty. |
Involving residents and family members in decisions about their own lives and surroundings, including when they are infirm, as a way of recognizing independence and supporting the highest possible quality of life. |
Supporting mutual respect and interaction among those in our programs, our residents and their families, our staff, and the wider community. |
Creating social environments that draw on the skills and unique experiences that participants bring to the community. |
Providing nursing care for frail and confused patients that is not dependent on the use of physical restraints. |
Involving employees in broad areas of decision-making and treating them with respect. |
Operating under the leadership of the Board of Trustees who carry out their business on the basis of Quaker decision-making processes (seeking unity in decision-making) and Quaker values. |
Managing finances prudently, as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the services of our residents. |
Believing that the later years are full of potential for love, growth, friendship, and contributions to others. |
