Kathy Kenny is all about the books. In addition to being an avid reader, she was the Lower School librarian at Roland Park Country School for thirty years and is coauthor of two books, "Juanita Jackson Mitchell, Freedom Fighter," and "Courageous Women of Maryland."
One of the most interesting of those Maryland women was Dr.Helen Taussig, who developed the surgical procedure to cure "blue babies." Although there was information available about her, much of it was copyrighted and expensive to obtain, so Kathy was delighted to interview a man who knew Dr. Taussig and saw that first operation. Kathy likes the research part of writing best and she says that there may be another book or two in the offing.
Raised in Norwich, VT, and Florida, Kathy divided her time as a child between her divorced parents. Kathy joins the gaggle of Goucher Girlshere at Broadmead. She met her husband, Thomas, on a blind date during her last year at Goucher, and was charmed by his bow tie. They lived in Roland Park; on Broadway Road in the Green Spring Valley; then Ruxton, where they raised two daughters.
Travel is something Kathy loves. Following what she calls a "magical time" three-month sabbatical in London, she and Tom greatly enjoyed a visit to the Amalfi Coast prior to returning home. For her seventieth birthday, Kathy made her third visit there.
Walking is another interest, so she looks forward to exploring Broadmead's trails.
